Joann Marie Smith was born on May 28, 1950 in Knox County, Kentucky. She was the daughter of the late Joseph Miller and Elsie Elliott. She was united in marriage to Gillis Ray Smith of East Bernstadt, Kentucky. She is also survived by three children, Jeffrey Scott Smith and wife Leigh Anne Albrechta of Louisville, Kentucky; Jill Yvonne Elza and husband Gary Dean; Angela Marie Smith and husband Steve Caudill all of East Bernstadt; two siblings, Shirley Walling of Duffield, Virginia; Deborah Bingham of London, Kentucky; five grandchildren, Josiah Aker, Carnegie Caudill, Matthew Elza, Lexi Elza and Dena Elza plus a host of other family and friends to mourn her passing. She was also preceded in death by two siblings, Betty Mills and Billy Elliott.
Joann was a substance abuse counselor and a member of Himyar Baptist Church.
Joann Marie Smith departed this life on Saturday, February 17, 2024 being 73 years, 8 months and 20 days of age.
The funeral service for Joann Marie Smith will be conducted at 11 am Wednesday in the Bowling Funeral Home Chapel with Jerry Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Mill Springs National Cemetery in Nancy, Kentucky.
The family of Joann Marie Smith will receive friends from 5-8 pm Tuesday at Bowling Funeral Home.
