Mrs. Joan Louise Garland, 78, of Cannon, passed away Friday afternoon, March 4, 2022 at the home of her daughter. She was the daughter of the late Rev. Benjamin Herman and Donie Mae Lucy Broughton born on March 26, 1943 in Barbourville.
Joan was a homemaker and a member of the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, where she loved attending church. In earlier years, she enjoyed camping and going to the cabin. She also loved gardening, sewing, joking and scaring people, sitting on her porch swing and spending time with family and friends.
On June 13, 1959, she united in marriage with Albert Garland and to this union four children were born.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Beverly Ann Garland and Mary Lou Broughton Wright; four brothers, Rev. Jackie Dean Broughton, Perry Broughton and infants, Joe and Frank Broughton and two brothers-in-law, Lonnie Wilson and Bobby Garland.
Survivors include her loving husband of over 62 years, Albert Garland of Cannon; dearly loved children, Maxine “Doodle” Honeycutt of Girdler, Melina “Nunk” Garland of Cannon, Anthony “Squirt” Garland wife, Tara Leigh, and Amy “Boo” Garland all of London; sisters, Martha Sue Wilson of Bailey Switch, Eulene Garland and Donna Mae Broughton Garland and husband, Jerry, all of Cannon, Sandra Smith and husband, J. B., of Woollum and Renee Brittain and husband, Jimmy, of Rockholds; brothers, Rev. Leslie Broughton and wife, Sherie, of Barbourville, Tommy Broughton and wife, Teresa, of Cranes Nest and Benny Broughton of Barbourville; cherished grandchildren, Crystal Gail “Pug Ugly” Lynch, Jovon Breanne Louise “Pistol” Cox, Roni Lea “Cinderella” Parnell and husband, Thomas, Jamelia Paige “ShoogetNooget” Overbay and fiancé, Kyle Maggard, James Ballis “Buster” Overbay, Scarlett Kayee “Squirttle” Garland and Jazlyn Aeriana “Beautified” Miller; great grandchildren, Garfield Theodore Jack “Bub Biscuit” Cox, Sara Heather December Cheyenne “Skinny” Cox, Steven Floyd “Rooster” Lynch, Sophie Marie “Chicken Little” Maggard, Charlie “Paker Monkey” Cox; step-mother, Fayetta Overton Broughton of Barbourville; several very special and loved nieces and nephews; among other loved ones and dear friends.
Her funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Wednesday, March 9 at 2 P.M. with Rev. Garrett Garland officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Barbourville Cemetery.
Casket bearers will be James Ballis Overbay, Garfield Theodore Cox, Steven Floyd Lynch, Randy Saylor, Kyle Maggard, Jovon Cox and Lonnie Wilson.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Bluegrass Hospice Care for the excellent care given to Mrs. Garland.
Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday after 12 Noon until the funeral hour.
