Obituary for Jimmie Michael Hicks (1946-2021)

Barbourville, Ky. – Jimmie Michael Hicks, 74, passed away August 1, 2021.  Jimmie was the son of Georgia Hix and Elmer Hix, joyfully born to them on October 24, 1946, in Barbourville, Kentucky.

Jimmie was a great dad – one of, if not, the best in the world, who loved his children immensely.  Jimmie enjoyed life to the fullest.  He was an outdoorsman, preferring to spend his free time outside mushroom hunting, fishing for the “big” one, or simply, relaxing on a bank.   Most weekends, you could find Jimmie at the dirt track watching his son-in-law and grandson race.  Jimmie also loved to travel, especially with family.  Florida, with its warm sunshine and beautiful beaches, was a favorite destination of Jimmies, and he vacationed there often with his family.  Jimmie also treasured his annual trip with his siblings to the great Smokey Mountains and Gatlinburg, Tennessee.  In his spare time, a favorite hobby of Jimmie’s was gun collecting.  He traveled far and wide in search of just the right guns to purchase for his collection and he usually found just what he was looking for.

Jimmie will be greatly missed by his family and friends, who now take comfort in knowing he is sure to continue to watch over and guide them in the right direction, as he always tried to do.  In return, family and friends will always love Jimmie and will hold Jimmie dear in their hearts, while cherishing fond memories of time shared with him.

In addition to his parents, Georgia Hix and Elmer Hix, Jimmie was preceded in death by a son Jimmie Hicks; three siblings: brother Charles Hix, and sisters Connie Mills, and Edna Vitale; two nieces: Janie Mills, and Lisa Jett; nephew Tony Mills; and great granddaughter Joslyn Hicks.

Left behind to celebrate Jimmie’s life are his beloved children: daughter, Jennifer Green (Brandon), and sons, Mike Hicks (Marsha) and James Hicks; and four siblings: sisters Vivian Smith, Diane Cain (Bart), Kathy Hicks, and brother Rondall Hix (Sherrie).  Eleven grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and friends also survive Jimmie.

Visitation for Mr. Hicks will be at the Hopper Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, August 6, 2021, from 3:00 PM until the funeral hour of 5:00 PM.  The Reverend Billy Stewart will officiate.  Interment will immediately follow the funeral service in the Smith Cemetery at Indian Creek.  Pallbearers will be dear family members and friends.
