Obituary for Jewell Dean Wood (1956-2020)

Mrs. Jewell Dean Wood, 64, of Barbourville, passed away Monday morning, November 9, 2020 at her home.  She was the daughter of the late Carl Smith and Lucy Broughton Smith Mirick born on May 26, 1956 in Harlan County.

Jewell was a former sales associate and a member of the Mountain Missionary Baptist Church.  She enjoyed shopping, cooking, traveling and especially spending time with family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Vanessa Michelle Smith; three sisters, Christine Gross, Wilma Bray and Wanda Hughes and a brother, Leroy Smith.

Survivors include her daughter, Tammy Reeves and husband, Mike, of Corbin; two sisters, Gail Phipps and husband, Tim, of Gray and Stella Warner and husband, Dale, of Cincinnati, OH; a brother, Ken Smith and Wanda of Barbourville; two grandchildren, Courtney Mills and Erika Smith and Jordan; former husband and life-long friend, A. J. Mills; special friends, George Schaeffer and his daughter, Megan; among other loved ones and dear friends.

Her funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Friday, November 13 at 1 P.M. with Rev. Tim Phipps and Rev. Wayne Phipps officiating.  She will be laid to rest in the Barbourville Cemetery.

Casket bearers will be family and friends.  Honorary bearers will be the staff of the UK Markey Cancer Center and Bluegrass Hospice Care.

Friends may call at the funeral home Friday after 12 Noon until the funeral hour.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Knox Funeral Home.
