Mrs. Jewell Dean “Bargo” Powell, age 80 of Louisville, Kentucky departed this life on Friday, September 15, 2023 in the Hosparus Inpatient Care Center in Louisville. She was born on July 29, 1943 in Knox County, the daughter of General and Lola Bargo. On April 24, 1965, she united in marriage with Leemon Powell and they enjoyed fifty-eight years together before his recent passing.
In her younger years, Jewell Dean attended the Salt Gum Baptist Church and also Scalf Chapel Pentecostal Church. She was a member of the Eastern Star and retired from Apparel Group. Following her retirement, she worked at Jewish Hospital in Louisville. She was an incredibly hard-working woman and took special care of her husband Leemon for the past twenty years. She especially loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Leemon Powell, her parents, General and Lola Bargo, her mother and father-in-law, Joe and Axie Powell and her brothers-in-law, Darrell Mobley, Matthew Mills, Marvis Pridemore and John Marshall Powell.
Left behind to mourn her passing, her loving son, John Powell and wife Misty of Shepherdsville, Kentucky, two beloved grandchildren, Jacob Powell and Haley Mills, four sisters, Victoria Pridemore of Barbourville, Marjorie Mobley, Betty Sue Mills, and Lois Mills and husband Elbert all of Corbin. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends to mourn her passing.
Funeral services for Mrs. Powell will be conducted on Thursday, September 21, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. in the Hampton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kennon Roark officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Yeager-Powell Cemetery in Bimble. Pallbearers will be, Dustin Mills, Paul Kenneth Carmack, Bobby Carmack, Jerry Carmack, James Dunn and Jerry Bargo. Hampton Funeral Home will be in charge of all arrangements.
Friends will be received at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 6:00 until 9:00 p.m. and on Thursday, from 12:00 noon until the hour of service at 2:00 p.m.
