Mr. Jerry W. Anderson, 85, of Emanuel Hollow, passed away Sunday morning, December 24, 2023 in Carrollton, TX with his daughter by his side. He was the son of the late William “Willie” and Elsie Helton Anderson born on July 3, 1938 at Gray.
Jerry was a former millwright with General Motors for more than 40 years. He took pride in being a member of the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. He lived his life by keeping his faith in God. In his younger days, he was known as a “sharp dressed man”. Being 6’4” he was very good at basketball and played for many years. When he retired he turned to his Harley motorcycle and enjoyed riding the back roads, loving the wind in his face and the sun on his back. He loved to watch basketball, football and just about anything sports related. He was a kind, gentle giant and loved the simple life of a recliner, a remote and his dog, Dixie.
He united in marriage with Mary Faye Lamb and to this union a daughter was born.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, W. Ray and Johnny Dale Anderson.
Survivors include his loving daughter, Melissa Renee’ Thompson of Carrollton, TX; two sisters-in-law, Judy Anderson of Southgate, MI and Marilyn Anderson of Carleton, MI; several nieces and nephews, Michelle Bowers and husband, Jimmy, Michael and Chrissy Anderson, Matthew and Kathy Anderson, Mark Anderson, Scott and Laura Anderson, Thomas and Jennifer Anderson and Mandy Marut; several great nieces and nephews, Andy, Ally, Max, Donovan, Casey, Kathryn, Olivia, Jillian, Rebekah, Samuel, Emma, Sarah, Ethan, Elijah, Ella and Elden; a beloved cousin, Gloria “Dockie” Hurd of Keavy and her family, David and Harriet Hurd, Kim and Ryan Prewitt, Gabe and Skylar, Kelsey and Bryan Brown and Cash; among other loved ones and dear friends.
His funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Saturday, January 6, 2024 at 1 P.M. with Rev. Garrett Garland officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Beatty Cemetery.
Casket bearers will be Max Anderson, Donovan Anderson, Casey Anderson, Samuel Anderson, Andy Bowers, Ethan Marut and Elijah Marut.
Friends may visit at the funeral home Friday between 6 and 8 P.M. and Saturday prior to the funeral hour.
Flowers are welcomed or should one wish, expressions of sympathy may go to the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in his memory.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Knox Funeral Home.
