Mr. Jerry Paul Cox, age 45 of Barbourville departed this life on Tuesday, March 2, 2021. He was the son of Jerry “Rabbit” Cox and Bobbie Gambrel Cox born to them on April 1, 1975 in Pineville, Kentucky. He was a member of the Artemus Baptist church and was baptized April 1, 2018.
Jerry had completed his Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. He was employed by the Knox County Board of Education where he was coordinator of district facilities purchasing department. He was also co-owner of C & J Auto Sales. He loved drag racing and could be found almost every weekend at the London Dragway. He enjoyed working on his cars and also liked basketball and baseball. His favorite pastime was spending time with his girls.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Cordie and Ross Gambrel and William Henry and Maudie Cox.
Left behind to mourn his passing, his father, Jerry Wayne Cox of Flat Lick, his mother Bobbie Cox of Barbourville, his daughters, Kennedi Mae Gambrel of Lexington, Addyson Elizabeth Cox, Bristol Shelby Cox and Ava Kate Cox and a bonus daughter, Emma Grace Messer all of Artemus, two sisters, Angie Smith and husband Wendell and Melissa Gray all of Barbourville, one brother, Mason Cox of Flat Lick, nieces and nephews, Faith Daniels and husband Isaac of Tennessee, Bethany Taylor of Barbourville, Mikayla Mills and husband Justin of Flat Lick, Joseph Smith, Wendi Smith, Kaydence Asher and Conner Asher all of Barbourville, Anna Smith and William Smith both of Corbin and one great nephew Colson Mills. He also leaves behind many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Mr. Jerry Paul Cox will be conducted in the Cobb-Hampton Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, March 6, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. He will be laid to rest in the Hammons Cemetery at Flat Lick. Honorary pallbearers will be everyone at the London Dragway and the Knox County Board of Education. Cobb-Hampton Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.
Friends will be received at the Cobb-Hampton Funeral Home on Friday evening from 6:00 until 9:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until the hour of service at 1:00 p.m.
