Obituary for Jennifer Susan Gambrel (1975-2024)

Mrs. Jennifer Susan Gambrel, 49, of Flat Lick, passed away Wednesday evening, September 4, 2024 at her home. She was the daughter of the late Bennie and Lilly Hampton Gray born March 22, 1975 in Barbourville.

Jennifer was a former cook with the Barbourville Independent School District and a member of the Barbourville Church of God. Jennifer was an active member of her church and sang on the praise team. She enjoyed taking beach trips, cooking family meals, crafting and sewing, often creating beautiful Daniel Boone Festival dresses from scratch. Above all, she cherished time spent with her children and grandchildren.

On April 4, 1997 she united in marriage with Jason Scott Gambrel.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Holt.

Survivors include her loving husband of 27 years, Jason Gambrel of Flat Lick; children, Amanda Rodriguez and husband, John, Andrew Gambrel and Jonathan Gambrel, all of Flat Lick; step-son, Corey Gambrel of Barbourville; sisters, Karen Abner and husband, Teddy, of Woolum, Candy Fothergill of Lexington and Loretta Roach and husband, Randal of Barbourville; brothers, Roger Gray and wife, Shannon, of Gray, Ronnie Gray and wife, Brenda, of TN, Ricky Gray of Corbin and Donnie Gray of Barbourville; cherished grandchildren, Delaney and Alex Rodriguez and Mason and Landon Gambrel; parents-in-law, Ronnie and Mitzi Gambrel of Flat Lick; among other loved ones and dear friends.

Her funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Wednesday, September 11 at 12 Noon with Rev. Sylvester Dunn officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Barbourville Cemetery.

Serving as casket bearers will be Nathan Gambrel, John Rodriguez, Ronnie Gambrel, Teddy Abner and Roger Gray.

Friends may visit at the funeral home Tuesday between 6 and 9 P.M. and on Wednesday prior to the funeral hour.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Knox Funeral Home.
