Obituary for Janice Hammons West (1941-2022)

Mrs. Janice Hammons West, 80, of Corbin, passed away Monday evening, June 13, 2022 at her home with her loving family by her side. She was the daughter of the late Carl and Elizabeth Hubbard Hammons born on August 28, 1941 at Greenroad.

Janice was a former hairdresser and attended the Hopewell Baptist Church. She loved to plant and grow a beautiful garden full of flowers. Taking care of her family was at the forefront of her life and she always kept a clean home and food on the table. She never failed to put her family’s needs before her own. In her spare time, she loved to read a good book.

On July 31, 1958, she united in marriage with Glen West and to this union three children were born.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a dearly loved son, Mark West; brothers and sisters, Max, Ted, Delano, and Joan Hammons, Jane Thomas, June Lane, Jean Hedish, Irene Goodman and Carlene Kiser.

Survivors include her loving husband of almost 64 years, Glen; loving children Shan Burns and husband, James, of Manchester and Brent West of Corbin; a sister, Patricia Hammons; grandchildren, Marc Ian West and wife, Mary Lydia, Sean Karl West and wife, Kristen, Kyle West and wife, Chelsea, Carli Rae West and Alli Fisher; great-grandchildren, Tate, Tripp, Raylon and Gentry West; a brother-in-law, Gerald West and wife, Dolly; among other loved ones and dear friends.

A graveside service will be conducted in the Barbourville Cemetery Chapel Friday, June 17 at 11 A.M. with Rev. Dennis McCoy officiating.

Casket bearers will be James Burns, Bryan Jenkins, Brandon Jenkins, Darrell Hampton, Jerry Woods and Roger Helton.

Friends may call at the cemetery Friday prior to the service time.

Expressions of Sympathy may go to Hopewell Baptist Church, Corbin, in her memory.

The family would like to extend their sincerest appreciation to Bluegrass Hospice Care, especially nurses Joanna, Autumn and Jennifer, and to several neighbors and friends for the excellent care and assistance provided to Mrs. West during her illness.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Knox Funeral Home.
