Barbourville, Ky. – Janice Broughton, 70, of Cannon, passed away September 20, 2021. Janice was the daughter of Edna Mills and Wesley Mills, joyfully born to them on June 9, 1951.
Janice was born and raised in Knox County, Kentucky. She was a Christian of the Baptist faith. She united in marriage to David Broughton on September 6, 1969 and to this union three children were born. Janice was a dedicated home maker. She lovingly tended to her flower beds, and vegetable garden, and enjoyed quilting and pottery. She was also a talented cook. Family and friends were always raving about her food, especially her homemade dinner rolls. Most important to Janice though was her family. She treasured family time and delighted in playing with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Edna and Wesley Mills, Janice was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 39 years, Reverend David L. Broughton; five brothers, O.V. Mills, Aster Mills, Wesley Nasby Mills, Leamon Mills, and Ray Mills; two sisters-in-law, Shirley Mills, and Onylee Mills; and four brothers-in-law, Ralph Burnham, Charles Isreal, Tom Price, and Charles Reeves.
Left behind to mourn her passing is her daughter Edna Jackson (Michael) of Heidrick, Kentucky; sons, David Broughton, Jr. (Jessica) of Cannon, Kentucky, Christopher Broughton (Jody) of Barbourville, Kentucky; six grandchildren, Tabitha McKeehan (Aaron) of Heidrick, Kentucky, Aaron Jackson (fiancé Charity McGrath), Nicholas Broughton, Madison Broughton, Kaleb Broughton, and Ryan Broughton; and four great grandchildren, Moriah McKeehan, Ezra McKeehan, Judah McKeehan, and Isaiah McKeehan. Five sisters; Virginia Reeves of Corbin, Kentucky, Ramona Isreal of Louisville, Kentucky, Geneva Burnham of Heidrick, Kentucky, Brenda Sue Price of Louisville, Kentucky, and Glenda Riddle (Calvin) of Gray, Kentucky; and three sisters-in-law, Thelma Mills of Gray, Kentucky, Nadine Mills of Magnolia, Kentucky, and Kay Mills of Bloomington, Kentucky also survive Janice and will remember her fondly.
The Family will receive friends at the Hopper Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, September 25, 2021, from 11:00 AM until the funeral hour of 2:00 PM. Reverend James Bargo and Reverend Jerry Smith will officiate. Interment will immediately follow the funeral service in the Patterson Cemetery at Heidrick, Kentucky. Pallbearers are Nicholas Broughton, Aaron Jackson , Steven Broughton, Nathan Broughton, Zachery Broughton, Braxton Broughton, Silas Bargo, and Otis Smith . Honorary Pallbearers are Janice’s youngest, cherished, grandchildren and great grandchildren, Dr. Carter, and dedicated staff members at both Access Health and the Markey Cancer Center.
