Mr. James Walter Smith, 81, of Barbourville, passed away Saturday morning, January 29, 2022 at the Barbourville Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was the son of the late Joe L. and Bertha King Smith born on October 10, 1940 at Turkey Creek.
Walter was a former sawmill machine operator and of the Baptist faith. He enjoyed fishing, trading knives and spending time with his friends at McDonald’s.
In 1958, he united in marriage with Christine Payne and to this union a daughter was born.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Christine; a beloved daughter, Cindy Lou Smith; three sisters, Hattie Mae Powell, Margaret Moore and Irene Powell and a brother, Pascal Smith.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews; his friends at McDonald’s; among other loved ones and dear friends.
His funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Wednesday, February 2 at 2 P.M. with Rev. Leonard Lester and Dr. Bill Vickers officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Hughes Hill Cemetery.
Casket bearers will be family and friends.
Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday after 12 Noon until the funeral hour.
The family requests that all visitors wear a facial covering and practice social distancing during the visitation and funeral service.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Knox Funeral Home.
