Mr. J.L. Smith, age 81 of Woollum, Kentucky passed away at his home on Tuesday, May 10, 2022. He was the son of Boone and Mary Smith, born to them on February 14, 1941 in Knox County. On November 15, 1969, he united in marriage with MaryEtta Sprinkles and to this union four children were born. J.L. enjoyed riding horses, watching westerns and spending time with family and friends.
J.L. is preceded in death by his parents, Boone and Mary Smith, four brothers, Jabe and wife Laura, Daniel and wife Margaret, Will and wife Elva and Curly and wife Floretta; two sisters, Lula Smith and Marie Jordan and husband Tom; one brother-in-law, Willie Branstutter.
Survivors include his loving wife of fifty-two years, MaryEtta Smith and four children, Tony Smith and wife Lynn, Teresa Abner and husband Jeff and Steven Smith all of Woollum, and Karen Grant and husband Anthony of London, six grandchildren, Amanda Hensley and husband Richard; Dylan Abner and wife Debbie, Devon Abner; Ethan, Brack, and Chasen Grant; two great grandsons, Eli and Jacob Hensley and one great granddaughter baby Abner due to arrive in October, one brother, Walter Smith and wife Kathy of Woollum; two sisters Edna Branstutter of Barbourville and LouEllen “Dot” Townsley and husband Clarence Ray of Michigan, one brother-in-law, Bert Smith of Gray. J.L. also leaves behind many loving nieces and nephews along with a host of other relatives and friends to mourn his passing.
Funeral services for Mr. J.L. Smith will be conducted on Saturday, May 14, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Paul Frederick and Rev. Raymond Smith officiating. Pallbearers will be grandsons and great-grandsons. He will be laid to rest in the Calvin Jordan Cemetery at Woollum. Hampton Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Friends will be received at the funeral home on Friday evening from 6:00 until 9:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service at 2:00.
