Obituary for J.B. Farmer (1931-2022)

Mr. J. B. Farmer, 90, of Barbourville, passed away Tuesday evening, March 15, 2022 at his home.  He was the son of the late John Thomas and Lela Mae Prichard Farmer born on June 20, 1931 in Barbourville.

J. B. was a retired fleet service clerk with American Airlines, a member of the Transport Workers Union and a member of the First Baptist Church of Barbourville.  J. B. was a former member of the Walnut Heights Baptist Church in Columbus where he served as a trustee and deacon.  He enjoyed having pets, gardening, building, mechanics, listening to bluegrass and gospel music and loved spending time with his family.  J. B. was a man of faith and good moral character and passed down those same traits to his children and grandchildren.

On July 21, 1951, he united in marriage with Hazel Gibson and to this union three children were born.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Foister Sr., Vernon, Lonzo, Cotton and Ed Farmer, Hester Valentine, Ilena Smith, Jean Hayes, Nell Miller and Marie West.

He is survived by his loving wife of over 70 years, Hazel Farmer; three daughters, Rhonda Evans and husband, Allen, Teresa Parsley and Doreen Farmer; two sisters, Wilma Garrison and husband, Matt, and Billie Joyce Franklin; six treasured grandchildren, David Evans and wife, Maureen, Andy Evans and wife, Leigh Ann, Gary Lee Parsley, Jeff Parsley, Ryan Parsley and Steven Parsley and wife, Sammy Davidson; great grandchildren, Megan, Zack and Bradley Parsley, Andrew, James and Jonah Evans; special friends, Archie and Ritza Miller; among other loved ones and dear friends.

His funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Wednesday, March 23 at 2 P.M. with Rev. Dr. Tyler Shields officiating.  He will be laid to rest in the Barbourville Cemetery.

Casket bearers will be his grandsons.

Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday after 12 noon until the funeral hour.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Knox Funeral Home.
