Obituary for Irma Hubbs (1930-2024)

Mrs. Irma Hammons Hubbs, 94, of Port Orange, FL, formerly of Barbourville, left this world to meet her Savior face to face Monday morning, July 8, 2024 at her home.  She was the daughter of the late Jeff and Esceline Bargo Hammons born on January 23, 1930 at Stinking Creek.

Irma was a former elementary schoolteacher and since the age of 11, has been a member of the Roadside Baptist Church.  She enjoyed sewing, quilting, was an avid bird watcher and valued the time spent with friends.  Her passion for writing led her to writing poetry, songs and a novel.

On August 4, 1954, she united in marriage with Paul E. Hubbs and to this union a son was born.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul, on August 26, 2003; a brother, Obie John Hammons and three sisters, Opal Slusher, Doris Mitchell and Neva Kaplan.

Survivors include her loving son, Gary Edward Hubbs and wife, Amy, of Fort Lauderdale, FL; grandchildren, Garrett Hubbs and wife, Natalia, of Caledonia, MI, Monica Rosenberg and husband, Jeffery, and Mohamed Ayoubi all of Port Orange, FL and Amanda Beth Mitchell, whom she loved as a granddaughter; great grandchildren, Cody, Gabriella, Triston and Sebastian Rosenberg; numerous nieces and nephews; among other loved ones and dear friends.

Her funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Wednesday, July 17 at 7 P.M. with Rev. Gary King officiating.  She will be laid to rest in the Warfield Cemetery Thursday, July 18 at 10 A.M.

Casket bearers will be family and friends.  Honorary bearers will be her caregivers, Eulalia Hillard, Delores Barnes, Sonya Ramey and Shelly Bissell and a special neighbor, Ellie Chambers.

Friends may visit at the funeral home Wednesday after 5 P.M. until the funeral hour.  Family and friends will gather at the cemetery Thursday at 9:45 A.M.
