Mr. Herbert Smith, 81, of Bimble, passed away Saturday evening, June 1, 2024 at the St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington. He was the son of the late Chris and Dora Mills Smith born April 4, 1943 at Barn Yard.
Herbert was a former delivery truck driver with the United States Postal Service and of the Holiness faith. He loved working and talking to people. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially the grandkids.
On May 25, 1963 he united in marriage with Carol Smith in Harvard, IL.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his loving wife of 61 years Carol Smith of Bimble; children, Darla Abner and husband, Keith, of Heidrick and Darrin Smith and wife, Teresa of Himyar; a sister, Judy Baker of Corbin; brothers, Harold Gene Smith and wife, Debra, of Bimble, Don Smith and wife, Lynn, of Boone Height, Jerry Smith and wife, Peggy, of Bimble, John Smith of Girdler, Rev. Doug Smith and wife, Diane, of Boone Height and Ralph Smith and wife, Shelby, of Boone Height; cherished grandchildren, Brian Abner and wife, Frankie, Dana Carol Abner and Marissa Smith and husband, Alex; great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Samuel and Tytus Abner, Finn Jacob Smith and Serenity Smith, who is expected to arrive soon; among other loved ones and dear friends.
His funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Saturday, June 8 at 1 P.M. with Rev. Tommy Frazier and Roger Owens officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Henry Mills Cemetery.
Casket bearers will be Roger Owens, Jay Smith, Brad Smith, London Gross, Noah Gross, Dennis Mills and Jimmy “June Bug” Mays Jr. Honorary casket bearers will be his former USPS co-workers.
Friends may visit at the funeral home Friday from 6 until 8 P.M. and Saturday prior to the funeral hour.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Knox Funeral Home.
