Mr. Henry Matt Smith, 52, of Flat Lick, passed away Thursday morning, September 7, 2023 at the Barbourville ARH Hospital. He was the son of Sandra Powell Smith and the late Raymond Smith born on July 15, 1971 in Middlesboro.
Matt was a logger, former owner and operator of BKW Wood Products and believed in the Baptist faith. Logging was his passion, but he also enjoyed gardening, chicken fighting, was an avid Dallas Cowboys and UK fan.
On December 3, 1988, he united in marriage with Tracy Merida and to this union two daughters were born. Later on May 20, 2003, he united in marriage with Heather Carnes and to this union a daughter was born.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond Curtis Smith; grandparents, Henry Matt and Lena Smith and Clandis and Thelma Powell and a nephew, Clandis Ray Smith.
Survivors include his loving mother, Sandra Smith of Flat Lick; three daughters, Amber Hope Hibbard, Ashton Blake Wagers and husband, Jeremy, and Lauren Alexis Smith all of Flat Lick; a brother, Clandis Allen Smith Sr. and wife, JoSallie, of Flat Lick; grandchildren, Kylee Lena Danielle Hibbard and Camden Jace Hibbard; nephews, Raymond Curtis Smith II, John Herman Tyler Smith and Clandis Allen Smith II; a close family friend, Louann Smith; among other loved ones and dear friends.
His funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Tuesday, September 12 at 11 A.M. with Rev. Larry Sowders and Rev. Lonnie Collett officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Hammons Cemetery.
Casket bearers will be Travis Hubbard, Raymond Curtis Smith II, John Herman Tyler Smith, Chase Hubbard, Jeremy Wagers and Ronnie Townsley. Serving as honorary bearers will be his former employees at BKW Wood Products and Total Timber.
Friends may visit at the funeral home Monday between 6 and 9 P.M. and Tuesday prior to the funeral hour.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Knox Funeral Home.
