Mrs. Helen Jean Haynes, 63, of Cannon, passed away Thursday afternoon, September 16, 2021 at the Barbourville ARH Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Luther and Martha Mills Messer born on February 4, 1958 at Green Road.
Helen was a long-time cook at Girdler Elementary School, a member of the Friendship Baptist Church and attended the Sinking Valley Baptist Church. She enjoyed spending time playing games on her tablet and sewing.
She united in marriage with Carl Dale Vaughn and to this union two daughters were born. Later she united in marriage with Allen Wayne Haynes.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, A. W. Haynes; two sisters, Marie Charles and Clede Jackson; two brothers, John Messer and Luther Messer Jr. and a sister-in-law, Della Messer.
Survivors include two daughters, Crystal Mills and Angela Lawson and husband, James, all of Cannon; a step-daughter, Tammy Smith and husband, Harlan, of Barbourville; five brothers, Jimmy Messer and wife, Christine, Floyd Messer and wife, Helen, Arvil Messer, Dexter Messer and wife, Sue, all of Girdler and Chester Messer and wife, Shirley, of Barbourville; a sister-in-law, Dora Messer of Illinois; grandchildren, Miranda Lawson, Dustin Tyler Eric Mills and Zachary Allan Logan Broughton; special friends, Debbie Turner and Judy Fields; among other loved ones and dear friends.
Her funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Thursday, September 23 at 2 P.M. with Rev. Owen Smith and Rev. David Barnard officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Messer Cemetery.
Casket bearers will be family and friends.
Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday between 6 and 9 P.M. and Thursday prior to the funeral hour.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Knox Funeral Home.
