Mr. Gilbert Charles “G. C.” Trent, 84, of Woollum, passed away Wednesday evening, January 31, 2024 at his home. He was the son of the late Basil and Lucy Abner Trent born on August 11, 1939 at Woollum.
G. C. was a farmer and a member of the Antioch Baptist Church. He enjoyed farming, helping others and the simple things in life. He also loved singing, listening to gospel music and sharing the gospel when he had an opportunity. For many years, he was the caretaker of the Nan Riley Cemetery. G. C. most enjoyed spending time with his family that he dearly loved.
On December 5, 1959, he united in marriage with Lena Smith and to this union five children were born.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lena Trent; sisters, Helen Smith and Geraldine Trent and brothers, Emmanuel, Vernon and Ray Trent.
Survivors include his loving children, Lyvonne Gibbs and husband, Vernon, of Woollum, Ricky Trent and wife, Kathy, of Barbourville, Nicky Trent and wife, Margaret, Pam Sturdivant and husband, Jeff, all of Woollum and Buffie Hubbs and husband, James, of Barbourville; a sister, Georgia Wilburn of Barbourville; a brother, Basil Trent Jr. and wife, Georgia, of Girdler; cherished grandchildren, Mark Gibbs and wife, Jessica, Brandon Gibbs and wife, Suzanne, Shiree Ward and husband, Shane, Justin Trent, Tyler Trent and wife, Taylor, Courtney Broughton and husband, Joey, Trenton Hubbs, Ambers Sturdivant and wife, Miranda, Kayla Sturdivant and Aaron Sturdivant and wife, Bridgette; great grandchildren, Brian Gibbs and wife, Jessica, Gavin Gibbs, Allie Gibbs, Grayson Gibbs, Roxin Ward, Harper, Abel, Aaron Jeffrey, Natasha, Tabias, Auvi and Allison Sturdivant and Zoey and Charlie Johnson; among other loved ones and dear friends.
His funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Sunday, February 4 at 11 A.M. with Rev. Mark Gibbs and Rev. Jeff Sturdivant officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Nan Riley Cemetery.
Casket bearers will be his grandsons. Serving as honorary bearers will be Margaret Trent, Dr. West, nurses and staff at Barbourville ARH Hospital, Dr. Paul Pedersen and Knox County Home Health.
Friends may visit at the funeral home Saturday between 6 and 9 P.M. and Sunday prior to the funeral hour.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Knox Funeral Home.
