Obituary for Georgia Carter (1949-2023)

Mrs. Georgia Carter, 74, of Barbourville, passed away Thursday evening, October 26, 2023 at her home.  She was the daughter of the late John L. and Emma Mills born on September 6, 1949 at Woollum.

Georgia was a retired seamstress from Warner’s and a member of the Mountain Mission Baptist Church.  She was an avid UK basketball fan and she allowed no one to “bad mouth” Coach John Calipari.  She enjoyed working jigsaw puzzles, playing cards with family and working in her flower garden.  Georgia most loved spending time with her grandchildren.

On December 31, 1975, she united in marriage with James Edward “Jim” Carter, who preceded her in death.

Other family members to precede her in death were her sisters, Stacy Fields, Lena Garrison and Jeannetta Patterson; brothers, Vernon Mills and wife, Gennie, Farmer C. Mills and wife, June, Arnold Mills and John L. Mills Jr. and wife, Linda; a brother-in-law, Lonnie Elliott and nephews, Kevin Carter and Steve Garrison.

Survivors include her loving children, Rodney Blair of Barbourville and Amy Daniels and husband, Rev. David, of Mt. Vernon, OH; step-daughters, Cindy Bailey and Jamie Jackson both of Barbourville; sisters, Nadine Elliott of Barbourville and Geneda Garland of Harlan; brothers, R. J. Mills and wife, Odie Mae, and Clark Mills and wife, Jamie, all of Girdler; a sister-in-law, Almedia Mills and brothers-in-law, Jay Fields and Wayne Garrison; cherished grandchildren, Bradley, Brayden, Matthew and Logan Daniels; among other loved ones and dear friends.

Her funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Wednesday, November 1 at 2 P.M. Rev. Dewayne Smith and Rev. David Daniels officiating.  She will be laid to rest in the Burch Alford Cemetery.

Casket bearers will be Bradley Daniels, Brayden Daniels, Matthew Daniels, Logan Daniels and nephews.  Serving as honorary bearers will be her nieces, nephews and life-long fiend, Sherry Chadwell.

Friends may visit at the funeral home Tuesday between 6 and 9 P.M. and Wednesday prior to the funeral hour.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Knox Funeral Home.
