Mr. Gary Russell Hamilton, 65, of Barbourville, passed away Sunday morning, November 22, 2020 at the Eastern Kentucky Veterans Center in Hazard. He was the son of the late William G. and Jewell Massingill Hamilton born on June 3, 1955 in Knox County.
Gary was an auto salesman, of the Baptist faith and in earlier years served as a Baptist minister. He faithfully served his country in the United States Army and enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Jewell Bays and three brothers, Vernon, Marvin and James Hamilton.
Survivors include a daughter, Gwen Hamilton of Atlantic Beach, FL; siblings, Connie Russell of Georgetown, Ruby West of Davis Bend, Loretta Golden of Corbin, Marie Jenkins of Artemus, William G. Hamilton II and wife, Margaret, of Barbourville and Randall Hamilton and wife, Diane, of Georgetown; a grandchild, Nova DeCerce; among other loved ones and dear friends.
A private funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Saturday, November 28 with Rev. Bill Gray officiating. Military funeral honors will follow the service. He will be laid to rest in the Davis Cemetery.
Casket bearers will be Brian Hamilton, Billy Hamilton, Randall Hamilton, Tanner Hamilton and Jacob Hamilton. Honorary bearers will be the staff of the Eastern Kentucky Veterans Center.
A drive-thru visitation will be held at the funeral home Saturday from 12:00 until 1:00 P.M.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Knox Funeral Home.
Please remember, per the Governor’s mandate effective November 20, 2020 all funeral services will be private. Any person entering the funeral home is expected to be wearing a face covering of some kind at all times including graveside services and maintain the six feet of social distance.
