Hamilton, OH – Florence Hemphill Mills Hensley, affectionately known as “Florene”, age 74, passed away Wednesday, November 13, 2019. She was the daughter of the late Pearl Sizemore and Joe Hemphill born to them on May 5, 1945 in Bimble, Kentucky. Florence was raised in Bimble and lived there for many years before moving to Hamilton, Ohio. While Florence lived in Kentucky she worked at Warners and when she moved to Ohio, Florence worked at Hillman.
Florence’s family remembers her fondly and thinks of her with deep love, admiration and respect. She was a wonderful woman and mother who very much enjoyed spending time with her family, visiting with them and having meaningful conversations, usually over a hot cup of coffee. She loved her daughters-in-law and sons-in-laws as her own children. The children are all grateful she was their mother – they feel she was the “glue” that kept the family together and that she was the best mother they could have every hoped for. Florence was a true blessing to her family.
Florence is survived by four beloved children and their spouses. Mark Mills and wife Sandy of Gray, Ky; Darrell Mills and his wife Joanie of Laurel County, Ky. Daughters, Betty Fowler and husband, Bryan Scott and Kathy Jones and husband, Carlos. Florence also was blessed to have six Grandchildren who will deeply miss her: Ashely Jones, Ryan Mills, Tyler Mills, Benjamin Fowler, Conner Mills, and Jakie Jones. One Great Grandchild, Riley Mills survives Florence as well. Florence is also survived by three brothers and one sister, Charles Hemphill and Joe Hemphill Jr. both of Michigan; Rufus Hemphill of Tennessee; Cleda Robinson, formerly of Alexandria Ky.
Florence was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Albert Mills, the son of Reverend Lester Mills. She was also preceded in death by five brothers and one sister: Reverend Estill Hemphill, Tipton Hemphill, Lawrence Hemphill, Harold Hemphill, Floyd Hemphill, and Marie Smith.
Visitation for Mrs. Mills will be Friday, November 15, from 6:30 until 8:00 pm at Hopper Funeral Home.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Mills will be held Saturday, November 16, at 12:00 pm at the Hopper Funeral Home Chapel with Carlos Rose officiating. Beloved pallbearers are Mark Mills, Darrell Mills, Ryan Mills, Tyler Mills, Jakie Jones, Ben Fowler, Conner Mills, and Brian Scott Fowler. Burial will follow the funeral service at the Shymug, Sizemore, Cemetery in Bimble.
