Obituary for Effie H. Brown (1952-2023)

Mrs. Effie H. Brown, 70, of Swan Pond, passed away Friday afternoon, February 17, 2023 at her home.  She was the daughter of the late Albert and Pearlie Smith Hubbard born on September 19, 1952 at Scalf.

Effie was a former American Greeting employee and a member of the Swan Pond Baptist Church where she served in Women on a Mission.  She enjoyed gardening, cooking, a good joke, hunting, quilting, family picnics and visiting state parks.  She also enjoyed working on projects with her children and granddaughter.

On May 11, 1973, she united in marriage with Jack Allen Brown and to this union two children were born.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jack; a son, Jeffery Brown; sisters, Eleanor “Lena” Warren and Jill Lankford and brothers, Dewey, Carl and James Hubbard.

Survivors include her loving daughter, Jackie Berkley and husband, Richard Jr., of Speedwell, TN; sisters, Gladys Smith and husband, Phillip, and Berthel Blankenship all of Barbourville; a brother, Lonnie Hubbard of Scalf; a cherished granddaughter, Mahalie Rose Johnson; among other loved ones and dear friends.

Her funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Thursday, February 23 at 1 P.M. with Rev. Michael DeLand officiating.  She will be laid to rest in the Faulkner Chapel Cemetery.

Casket bearers will be Bill Oxendine, Charles Owens, Carl Dewayne Hubbard, Danny Mills, Chris Mills and Justin Mills.  Honorary bearers will be her church family and the staff of Bluegrass Care Navigators.

Friends may visit at the funeral home Wednesday between 6 and 8 P.M. and Thursday prior to the funeral hour.

Expressions of sympathy may go to the Swan Pond Baptist Church in her memory.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Knox Funeral Home.
