Mr. Edward Messer age 88 of Barbourville, Kentucky departed this life on Tuesday, July 13, 2021, at his home. He was the husband of Esceline (Mills) Messer and the son of Elijah Messer and Sarah Jane (Jackson) Messer born to them on April 22, 1933. Edward was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church. He retired from General Motors Corporation after twenty-two years. He was also a school bus driver for many years, he worked on the Happy Pappy program and also worked as a coal miner. He enjoyed fox hunting in his younger years and enjoyed being with his family.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Elijah and Sarah Messer, three brothers, Ellis Messer, Ike Messer and Leonard Messer, two sisters, Mary Smith and Effie Bargo and one daughter in law, Judy Messer, two sisters in law, Delores Messer and Marie Messer and four grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Esceline Messer of Barbourville, five sons, Rev. Alonzo Messer and wife Georgia of Dewitt, Vantory Messer and wife Elizabeth of Barbourville, Edward Messer, Jr. of Barbourville, Harrison Messer and companion Lisa Messer of Greenlake, Michigan and Kevin Paul Messer and wife Tina of Milford, Ohio, three daughters, Jacqueline Mills and husband CA of Barbourville, Delores Jean Bush and companion Darrell of Paoli, Indiana and Ella Christine Bush and husband Arnold of Mitchell, Indiana, one brother, Johnny Messer and wife Hayley of Mills, Kentucky. He also leaves behind twenty-eight grandchildren and many great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends to mourn his passing.
Funeral services for Mr. Edward Messer will be conducted in the Cobb-Hampton Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, July 16, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Lonnie Messer and Rev. Joseph Messer officiating. Pallbearers will be Vantory Messer, Jr., Joseph Messer, Johnathon Bush, Chris Mills, Nick Messer, Corey Blankenship and Adam Bush. He will be laid to rest in the Barbourville Cemetery. Cobb-Hampton Funeral Home will be in charge of all arrangements.
Friends will be received at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 6:00 until 9:00 p.m. and on Friday until the hour of service at 2:00 p.m.
