Obituary for Doyle Abner (1938-2024)

Mr. Doyle Abner, age 86 of Latonia, Kentucky, formerly of Heidrick, departed this life on Thursday, September 12, 2024 in the University of Cincinnati Hospital. He was the husband of Patricia Sue (Parrott) Abner.

      He was born on August 24, 1938, the son of Lester and Elsie Abner. He was a member of Beacon Baptist Church and attended Visalia Baptist Church in Visalia, Kentucky after moving to be near his family. Doyle was a Veteran of the United States Army,  a member of the American Legion in Ohio and a member of the Masonic Lodge # 524 in Ohio. 

      While he raised his family in Ohio, he was a supervisor and trainer with Duff’s restaurant, and he facilitated opening new locations for them. Later in life, he and Patty moved back home to Kentucky, and he had been a beloved employee of Hampton Funeral Home for several years after retiring.

      He is preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Elsie Abner, one brother, Kenneth Abner, one sister, Joan Johnson and a grandson, Dennis Abner, Jr.

      Left behind to mourn his passing, his wife Patricia Sue Abner of Latonia, his four sons, Jody Abner and wife Kathy of Latonia, Kentucky, Dennis Abner, Tim Abner and Donne Abner and wife Kim, all of Cincinnati, two brothers, Dean Abner and wife Kim of Cincinnati and David Smallwood and wife Karen of Nashville, TN, three sisters, Carol Bright and Beverly Lamb both of Heidrick and Donna Calloway and husband Charles of Barbourville and a sister-in-law, Irene Abner of Heidrick. He also leaves behind ten grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren along with many other relatives and friends.

      Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 16th at 12:00 noon in the Hampton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dennis Chesnut and Rev. James Vandy officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Trace Branch Community Cemetery at Heidrick. Pallbearers will be grandsons. Hampton Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

      Friends will be received at the funeral home on Monday from 10:30 a.m. until the hour of service at 12:00 noon.
