Barbourville, Ky. – Dorothy Mills, 80, of Turkey Creek, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, Easter Sunday, April 4, 2021. Dorothy was the daughter of Elsie Mills Hurst and Tip Hurst, joyfully born to them on July 3, 1940 in Bimble.
Dorothy will forever be remembered for the love and care she gave to others, especially to her three sons – Kenneth, Bobby, and Keith. She was a true matriarch, working tirelessly to take good care of family members from each generation – her parents, grandparents and her children and grands. Dorothy never met a stranger. One way she showed love to others was through feeding them. Everyone was always welcome in Dorothy’s kitchen. She always prepared three meals a day to be shared and enjoyed by family and friends alike. In her spare time, Dorothy enjoyed gardening, maintaining a vegetable garden and admiring her beautiful rose bushes. Dorothy instilled the value of working hard, to her sons, by action – by example. Dorothy worked the fields, alongside her sons, always sharing in the difficult farm and field tasks that never ended. Her lessons proved bountiful to her children, and they are grateful to their mother Dorothy, for the love she showed them and for teaching them well to uphold the values of life that have helped them to lead successful happy lives.
In addition to her parents, Elsie Mills Hurst and Tip Hurst, Dorothy was preceded in death by her beloved husband Clarence Mills.
Left behind to celebrate Dorothy’s life are her three sons: Kenneth Mills (Sherrie), Bobby Mills (Lisa), and Keith Mills (Beth). Four grandchildren: Adam Mills (Brittany), Kendra Mills, Jake Mills, and Sydney Mills, and one step grandson, Brandon Jackson as well as three great grandchildren: Hazel Mills, Madison Mills, and Colton Mills also survive Dorothy and will miss her greatly.
The Mills family will receive friends at Hopper Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 7, 2021 from 12:00 PM until the funeral hour of 2:00 PM. Reverend Sylvester Dunn will officiate. Interment will immediately follow the funeral service at the Mills Family Cemetery in Fortney Branch, Turkey Creek.
