Barbourville, Ky. – Doris Jean Helton Lay, 76, of the Apple Grove Community, Barbourville, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, August 31, 2022, at her home. Doris was the daughter of Roy Helton and Emma Prichard Helton, born to them on November 4, 1945, in Barbourville, Knox County, Kentucky.
Doris Jean retired from the Knox County Health Department after 37 years of service. She was a Christian of the Baptist Faith. In her spare time, Doris Jean enjoyed shopping and watching television.
Doris Jean was preceded in death by her parents Roy and Emma Prichard Helton; husband Glen Gordon Lay; sister Barbara Ann Helton; and brother Junior Wayne Helton and his wife Joy Helton.
Doris is survived by her loving family: niece Barbara Jean Evans and husband, Jack of Crosby, Tennessee; nephew Robert Helton and wife, Barbara of Dixon, Illinois; great nephew and great nieces Chaz Evans, Cheyenne Evans, Kristen Kaufman and husband Drew, and Amber Davey and husband Joe. Special cousins Jackie Logan Grant, John Bill Prichard and wife Belinda, along many other dear cousins, and friends also survive Doris and mourn her passing.
Visitation for Doris Jean Helton Lay will be held at Hopper Funeral Home on Sunday, September 4, 2022, from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM. Doris Jean’s funeral service will commence at 2:00 PM on Sunday, after the visitation. Reverend Jimmy Siler will officiate. Musical tributes to be performed by Reverend Jimmy Siler, Mark Siler and Tim Siler. Burial will follow the funeral service in the Parks-Helton Cemetery at Indian Creek. Those serving as Casket Bearers will be family and friends.
