Mr. Denver Yancy “D. Y.” May, 78, of Heidrick, passed away Monday morning, October 11, 2021 at his home. He was the son of the late Tesco and Emma Mills May born on April 18, 1943 in Clay County.
Yancy was a mechanic who was a Chrysler Master Technician and pastor of the Church in Jesus. He most enjoyed spending time talking about Jesus, attending church and was often found in the yard playing with his grandbabies. He was a talented harmonica and guitar player and singer. Yancy also enjoyed collecting knives, guns and race cars.
On November 27, 1962, he united in marriage with Jean Grubb and to this union four children were born.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a great granddaughter, Alyvia Grace May.
Survivors include his loving wife of over 58 years, Jean May of Heidrick; beloved children, Dewayne May and wife, Teresa, of Harrogate, TN, Roger May and wife, Lisa, of Cannon, Gary May and wife, Amy, of Heidrick and Gina Hockett and husband, Clinton, of Barbourville; a sister, Nella Hacker of London; three brothers, Elmer May and Harrison Robert May both of London and General May of Cannon; nine treasured grandchildren, Joshua, Justin, Tyler, Tessa, Dylan and Dalton May and Kayla, Christian and Megan Smith; seven great grandchildren, Allison May, Charity, Crissalynn and Casen Bargo, Elijah, Memphis and Harley May; special friends, Gary Bargo, Otis Vaughn and Howard Smith; among other loved ones and dear friends.
His funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Friday, October 15 at 2 P.M. with Pastor Gary May, Cleveland May and Clint Hockett officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Trace Branch Community Cemetery.
Casket bearers will be Gary Bargo, Dylan May, Christian Smith, Joshua May, Justin May, Tyler May, Dalton May and Jordan.
Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday between 6 and 9 P.M. and Friday prior to the funeral hour.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Knox Funeral Home.
