Mrs. Coleen Carnes Bales, 80, of Barbourville, went home to be with the Lord Thursday morning, January 25, 2024 as she was surrounded by her loving husband and family.
Coleen was born September 6, 1943 and was the first child of McCoy and Doxie Williamson Carnes. She graduated from Knox Central High School in 1962. She left her home place in Walker to pursue employment in Indiana, where she met the love of her life, David Bales. In 1972, she gave birth to a precious son, Brian Bales.
Coleen was a wonderful wife to her husband of 53 years and she was an amazing mother and homemaker. She was a generous and kind sister to her seven sisters and three brothers and was always looking out for her parents and siblings.
She enjoyed traveling, new adventures, sister trips and making lasting memories with her family. Coleen was a member of the New Palestine Christian Church in Indiana and enjoyed participating in many events and activities. Upon returning to live in Barbourville in 2014, she enjoyed attending the East Barbourville Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her precious son, Brian Bales; sisters-in-law, Betty Carnes and Patty Sutton; brother-in-law, Richard Bales and parents-in-law, Harold and Lonetta Bales.
Survivors include her loving husband, David Bales of Barbourville; siblings, McCoy Carnes Jr. and wife, Madge, of Marion, IN, Mary Carnes Mills of Lakeland, FL, Rex Carnes and wife, Judy, of Cannon, Jackie Abner and husband, Bobby, of Heidrick, Phillip Carnes and wife, Vickie, of Cannon, Janice Floyd and husband, Jim, of Corbin, Madeline Mays and husband, Jimmy, of Bimble, Diane Carnes of Destin, FL, Linda Hughley and husband, Randy, of Santa Rosa Beach, FL, and Donna Cain and husband, Billy, of Barbourville; a host of nieces and nephews; among other loved ones and dear friends who will miss her dearly.
Her funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Sunday, January 28 at 3 P.M. with Rev. Josh Smith and Rev. Bobby Abner officiating. Friends may visit at the funeral home Saturday between 6 and 9 P.M. and Sunday prior to the funeral hour.
Friends may also visit at the Stillinger Family Funeral Homes Hendryx Cumberland Chapel in Cumberland, IN Tuesday, January 30 between 12 and 2 P.M. A graveside service will follow in the New Palestine Cemetery at 2:30 P.M.
Casket bearers will be family and friends.
The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. Paul Pedersen, Bluegrass Hospice Care and the staff of Barbourville ARH Hospital.
