Obituary for Christine Smith (1937-2023)

Barbourville, Ky. – Christine Smith, 86, of Corbin, passed away Wednesday evening, October 25, 2023. Christine was born on Jeffs Creek, in Knox County to her beloved parents, Roy and Martha (Mills) Smith on May 31, 1937. Christine was a lover of knowledge. She earned her master’s degree in education and taught school in Knox County for 40 years. Christine also enjoyed studying the bible. She could often be found reading or studying about her Baptist faith. She was a member of the Northside Baptist Church. In her spare time, Christine perfected her cooking and baking. She was known for her scrumptious desserts, especially her peanut butter roll. Christine loved her family and friends and kept up with them by chatting on the phone.  Christine was known to often call, just to check in with her loved ones and to make sure that everyone was doing well.

Christine is survived by her three nephews: Jeffery R. Smith (Mary), Kevin M. Smith (Joyce), and Mack S. Smith (Kathy); by her dear sister-in-law: Merle Smith; by five great-nephews: Josh Smith, Travis Smith (Tyra); Alex Burgan (Christine); Cameron Smith (Abigail) and Aric Smith; by 1 great-niece: Katelyn Ruark (Austin) and by one great great niece, Amara Smith. Preceding Christine in death were her beloved mother and father: Roy and Martha Smith, and her brother George H. Smith.

The Smith family will receive friends at Hopper Funeral Home, Sunday, October 29, 2023 from 12:00 PM until the funeral hour of 2:00 PM. Pastor Justin Morris will officiate. Musical tributes will be performed by Charles Gray. Interment will follow the service in the Barbourville Cemetery. The family has chosen as Casket Bearers: Josh Smith, Travis Smith, Alex Burgan, Cameron Smith, Aric Smith and Austin Ruark.
