Obituary for Charles Wesley Matlock (1958-2021)

Mr. Charles Wesley Matlock, 62, of Heidrick, passed away Wednesday evening, June 9, 2021 at Baptist Health Lexington.  He was the son of Dorothy Lamb Matlock and the late Riffie Matlock born on July 29, 1958 in Dayton, OH.

Wesley was an auto body repairman, the owner of Matlock and Sons Collision Center and a member of the Barbourville Church of God.  He enjoyed fishing, watching movies, going to the beach, especially Oak Island, NC, eating seafood and dearly loved spending time with his grandchildren.

On May 11, 1980, he united in marriage with Joella “Jody” Messer and to this union three children were born.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a sister, Robin Kay Matlock.

Survivors include his loving wife of 41 years, Jody Matlock of Heidrick; his mother, Dorothy Matlock of Barbourville; three beloved children, Mitchell Joe Matlock and wife, Brooks, of Heidrick, Travis Clark Matlock and wife, Heather, of Artemus and Justin Cody Matlock and wife, Danielle, of Gray; five grandchildren, Kelsi Matlock, Connor Donaldson, Violet, Rhett and Ruth Matlock; his church family; among other loved ones and dear friends.

His funeral service will be conducted at the Barbourville Church of God Monday, June 14 at 2 P.M. with Rev. Sylvester Dunn officiating.  He will be laid to rest in the Messer Cemetery.

Casket bearers will be Buster Matlock, Connor Donaldson, Donnie Hudson, Larry Brown, Herbie Smith, Brad Evans, James Blevins and Russell Stamper.  Serving as honorary bearers will be Bill Swafford, Tim Smith, Craig Lawson, Robert Head, Sisko Brogden and Johnny Wilder.

Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday between 6 and 8 P.M. and at the church Monday after 12 Noon until the funeral hour.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Knox Funeral Home.
