Mrs. Charlene “Pat” Murphy, 68, of Barbourville, passed away Saturday morning, January 2, 2021 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington. She was the daughter of the late Charlie and Hazel Smith Broughton born on April 19, 1952 in Pineville.
Pat was a retired owner and operator of Murphy’s Market at Artemus and a member of the Locust Grove Baptist Church.
On February 19, 1972, she united in marriage with Lee Gilbert Murphy and to this union two daughters were born.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lee; a sister, Ellen “Bootie” Powers and a brother, Herman Broughton.
Survivors include two beloved daughters, Angela Murphy of Frisco, TX and Tanya Halcomb and husband, Ralph, of Barbourville; a sister, Marjorie “Alene” Matlock and husband, Randall, of Artemus; two brothers, Harold Broughton and wife, Susan, of Artemus and Darris Broughton and wife, Lisa, of Corbin; a treasured granddaughter, Raley Halcomb; a sister-in-law, Pam Broughton; several special nieces and nephews; among other loved ones and dear friends.
Funeral arrangements will be announced as soon as they are available.
Casket bearers will be Trey Broughton, Brian Hembree, John McVey, Danny Howard, Mike Carnes, Jeff Carnes and Jim Miles. Honorary bearers will be Tim and Johnny Broughton, Johnny Bays, Keith Ramsey, Bryon Ramsey, Andy and Johnny Miles
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to special neighbors; Charles and Wendy Tye, Johnny and Kathy Valentine and Lula Mills, who were always there to help her in times of need. They would also like to express appreciation to Locust Grove Baptist Church and Artemus Baptist Church.
Expressions of sympathy may go to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, the Locust Grove Baptist Church or the Artemus Baptist Church in her memory.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Knox Funeral Home.
