Mr. Calvin D. Johnson, 78, of Heidrick, passed away Friday afternoon, June 18, 2021 at his home. He was the son of the late Warren and Pauline Fletcher Johnson born on November 12, 1942 at Heidrick.
Calvin was a retired educator, former principal at Jesse D. Lay Elementary School and a member of the Heidrick Holiness Church. He was also a Heidrick Holiness Board of Trustees member, Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Hunter Safety Instructor, National Rifle Association member, Knox County Bass Club member and United States Department of Agriculture Farm Steward. He loved gardening, farming, fishing, hunting, archery, collecting arrowheads, antique fishing lures and knives and was a life-long St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan. Calvin most enjoyed spending time with and supporting his grandchildren in any function or sporting events they were participating in.
On August 22, 1966, he united in marriage with Patrician Ann Jordan and to this union three daughters were born.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Melinda Johnson Pickle; his grandparents, John and Daisy Tuggle Fletcher and an uncle and aunt, Everett and Anita Johnson Fletcher.
Survivors include his loving wife of over 54 years, Patricia Johnson of Heidrick; two beloved children, Melissa Johnson Evans and husband, Patrick, of Heidrick and Jennifer Johnson Gregory and husband, Aaron, of London; precious grandchildren, Braxton Pickle, Seth Evans, Cody Evans and Kaylee Gregory; among other loved ones and dear friends.
His funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Tuesday, June 22 at 2 P.M. with Rev. Duke Hammons and Rev. Sylvester Dunn officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Doolin Cemetery.
Casket bearers will be Mike Baker, Bob Jasper, Jimmy Hinkle, Jesse Smith, Tommy Smith and Wayne Zigos.
Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday after 12 Noon until the funeral hour.
Expressions of sympathy may go to the Heidrick Holiness Church in his memory.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Knox Funeral Home.
