Mr. Burton Hammons, 90, of Heidrick, passed away Tuesday morning, May 2, 2023 at the Continue Care Hospital in Corbin. He was the son of the late William and Ella Spurlock Hammons born on October 22, 1932 at Moore’s Creek.
Burton was a former self-employed taxi driver and of the Baptist faith. He enjoyed a good game of horseshoes, bowling with his league, hunting, fishing and especially time spent with his family. Burton also faithfully served in the United States Army.
On September 6, 1956, he united in marriage with Bonnie Sue Carter and to this union a daughter was born.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Amos, Radford, Issac and Nevil Hammons, Evelyn Habercamp and Mary Lee Mills.
Survivors include his loving wife of over 66 years, Bonnie Sue Hammons of Heidrick; beloved daughter, Tammie Stewart and husband, Jerry, of Heidrick; treasured grandchildren, Tabatha Fetters and husband, Derrick, of Keavy and Jerry Lucas Stewart; great grandchildren, Ryleigh and Addyson Fetters; among other loved ones and dear friends.
His funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Monday, May 8 at 2 P.M. with Rev. David Barnard officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Patterson Cemetery.
Casket bearers will be family and friends.
Friends may visit at the funeral home Monday after 12 Noon until the funeral hour.
