Ms. Brenda Sue “Susie” Goins, 73, of Barbourville, passed away Wednesday morning, February 15, 2023 at her home. She was the daughter of the late William Norman and Wilma Buchanan Goins born on October 11, 1949 in Barbourville.
Susie will forever be remembered for her dress shop, Susie’s Fashions, located on the Court Square in the late 1970’s and early 1980’s. Susie grew up as a young girl working in her parents’ Apple Grove restaurant, the D&W Cafeteria. She was well known by patrons for working the cash register after school and on weekends. Susie was well-rounded and worked as a beautician in local shops at an earlier age. She took pride in being a meticulous housekeeper, organizing her house and garage to perfection. Her hobbies included swimming, playing tennis, horseback riding, dancing, playing the piano and walking with her friends. Susie was always the life of the party and never met a stranger, was always straightforward with her opinions to family and friends and enjoyed discussing political events of the day. She enjoyed visiting with her family and friends including her aunt, Joyce Buchanan, and her childhood friend and neighbor who was like a sister, Rita Noe Bruner. Susie was a member of the Apple Grove Baptist Church.
On July 20, 1973, she united in marriage with Milford “Wiley” Brown and to this union three children were born.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved aunt and uncle, Dorcas and Eli Goins, who were like second parents to her.
Survivors include her three beloved children, Michael D. Brown and Susan R. Brewer and husband, Chris, all of Barbourville and John Wiley Brown and fiancé, Detra, of Harrogate, TN; a brother, William “Billy” Norman Goins Jr. and wife, Viann, of Ft. Thomas; five treasured grandchildren, Quinlyn and Kamryn Chrisco, Reid and Reagan Brewer and Dr. Jared Brewer; a special niece, Rebecca McLean and husband, Ian; special friends, Bo and Jeff Mays; among other loved ones and dear friends.
Her funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Sunday, February 19 at 3 P.M. with Bro. J. Lester Horst officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Goins Cemetery.
Casket bearers will be Ike Roark, Ryan Stamper, Kevin Buchanan, Randy Buchanan, Dwight Buchanan, Jim Mills, Jerry Mills, Tommy Mills, Mike Mills, Brook Mills and Paul Jeffrey Mills. Serving as honorary bearers will be Shannon McCullough and Dr. James West.
Friends may visit at the funeral home Sunday after 12 Noon until the funeral hour.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Knox Funeral Home.
