Obituary for Betty Ann Martin (1939-2025)

Mrs. Betty Ann Martin, 85, of Heidrick, passed away Tuesday evening, January 28, 2025 at the Greg and Noreen Wells Hospice Care Center in Hazard.  She was born June 21, 1939 in Cumberland, the daughter of the late Bergeon and Oda Botkins Collier.

Betty was a retired social worker and a member of the First Baptist Church of Barbourville.  She was a graduate of Cumberland College and later attended the Chicago School of Design.  She was also a member of the Tuesday Club and the Red Hat Society, where she enjoyed the camaraderie of her friends.  She had a passion for fashion, decorating and entertaining where she always made family and friends feel welcome and treasured time spent with them.  With her husband, “Boog”, she lived life to the fullest.  Betty will be greatly missed but forever remembered for her joyful spirit, generosity and the lasting impact she had on the lives of those who knew her.

On December 21, 1962, she united in marriage with Donnie Lee “Boog” Martin, who preceded her in death.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by parents-in-law, Ersel and Claudia Blevins Martin and a sister and brother-in-law, Norma Jo and Jim Sears.

Survivors include her loving son, Chaz Collier Martin and wife, Diana, of Barbourville; a sister, Bonnie Handy and husband, Tom, of London; a granddaughter, Charity Reed of Barbourville; a great grandchild, Vanity Reed of Barbourville; a sister-in-law, Diane Dye and husband, Charlie, of Oak Ridge, TN; a brother-in-law, Doug Martin and wife, Judy, of Columbus, OH; family friends, Fred and Fran Anderson of Manchester; among other loved ones and dear friends.

A memorial service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Friday, February 7 at 2 P.M. with Dr. Tyler Shields, Rev. David Barnard, Rev. Mike Helton and Rev. Pamela Reed officiating.  Inurnment will follow the service in the Patterson Cemetery.

Friends may visit at the funeral home Friday after 12 Noon until the service time.

The family suggests contributions may go to the First Baptist Church of Barbourville, 201 N Main St., Barbourville, KY 40906 in her memory.
