Obituary for Bertha Mae Gregory (1937-2021)

Mrs. Bertha Mae Gregory, 84, of Girdler, passed away Tuesday evening, August 3, 2021 at the Hazard ARH Regional Medical Center.  She was the daughter of the late Robert and Verna Cook Meyers Wood born on February 6, 1937 in Cincinnati, OH.

Bertha was a homemaker and a member of the Horn Branch Baptist Church.  She enjoyed watching wrestling, especially John Cena, Little House on the Prairie, UK basketball and dearly loved spending time with her grandchildren.

On December 31, 1954, she united in marriage with Jabe B. Gregory Sr.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, J. B.; a son, Dennis Gregory; twin granddaughters, Taylor Michelle and Ashley Nicole McDonald; daughter-in-law, Joanne Gregory; two sisters, Roberta Meyers and Patty Roe and three brothers, Robert and Steven Wood and Wayne Meyers.

Survivors include her beloved children, Jeanne Gregory of Cannon, Danny Gregory, Jamie Gregory and wife, Angela, and Jabe Gregory Jr. and wife, Janice, all of Girdler; two sisters, Mary Louise Henson of Corbin and Diane Meyers of Paris; a brother, Ronnie Meyers of Cincinnati, OH; 11 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; among other loved ones and dear friends.

Her funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Monday, August 9 at 1 P.M. with Rev. Lonnie Collett and Rev. Mickey Smith officiating.  She will be laid to rest in the Gregory Cemetery.

Casket bearers will be Ellis “Peanut” Gregory, Ellis “Buzz” Gregory, Robert Gregory, Jacob Gregory, Steve Wood, Roger McDonald, Hunter McDonald and Travis Gregory.  Honorary bearers will be Kenneth, Henry, Earl Jr., Jimmy and Larry Gregory and the staff of the Hazard ARH Regional Medical Center.

Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday between 6 and 9 P.M. and

Monday prior to the funeral hour.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Knox Funeral Home.
