Barbourville, Ky. – Bertha Jerline Hamilton Brooks, 85, of Clinton, Tennessee, passed away June 6, 2022. Bertha was the daughter of Steve Hamilton and Susie Taylor Hamilton born to them on January 7, 1937, in Anchor, Kentucky.
Bertha will forever be remembered for the love she gave. She loved her family beyond measure, never turning any of them away, especially in times of need. She was a loyal friend, trusted with the most personal of information and she adored animals, especially her nine cats. Bertha worked for the Lima Newspaper for many years. In her spare time, she enjoyed dancing.
In addition to her parents, Steve Hamilton and Susie Taylor Hamilton, Bertha was preceded in death by husbands’ Dago Collins, Tom Johnson, Charles Mason, Sr., J. Jerrell, and Sonny Brooks; daughter Reta Gail Collins; sons’ Steven D. Collins and Wayne Collins; and brothers’ James Hamilton and Danny Hamilton.
Left behind to mourn her passing are sons’ Tom Johnson, Tim Johnson, and Charles Mason; sisters’ Fran Hamilton Baker, Mary Hamilton Gonter, Vina Mae Hamilton Gossard, and Hazel Hamilton Moore. Thirteen grandchildren: Scotty Collins, Brian Collins, Steven Sitcler, Jeremy Sitcler, Kourtnery Collins Youngless, April Coon, Jennifer Coon, Tom Johnson, Jessica Johnson, Sarah Johnson, Melinda Johnson, Melissa Johnson, and Mitchell Johnson; eleven great grandchildren; and beloved friend Mike Robertson also survive Bertha and will miss her dearly.
The Brooks Family will receive friends at Hopper Funeral Home on Saturday, June 11, 2022, from 1:00 PM until the funeral hour of 3:00 PM. Interment will follow the funeral service in the Barbourville Cemetery. Casket Bearers are Mike Robertson, Mitchell Folk, Steven Sitcler, Jeremy Sitcler, Tom Johnson, and Danielle Kendall.
