Beatrice Partin Carr, beloved mother, grandmother, wife, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend, peacefully concluded her earthly journey on April 6, 2024, at the age of 93. Born on February 17, 1931, Beatrice lived almost a century, bearing witness to the ebb and flow of history with grace and wisdom. She leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and cherished memories.
She was the third child of Gordon and Lillie Mae Jones Partin, a “rainbow baby” whose arrival brought joy and hope to her family after a great loss. Beatrice grew up alongside her older brother, Robert Lee, and younger brothers, Dewey and Billy, and several years later, she finally got a little sister, Mary Alice, whom she always considered a precious gift from above.
Beatrice was a pillar of strength and kindness within her family. She was a dutiful daughter, a caring sister, and a devoted aunt who played a significant role in the lives of her nieces and nephews.
On October 18, 1969, she joined hands in marriage with Glen Clavin Carr in Jellico, Tennessee, marking the beginning of a partnership filled with love and devotion.
Their journey together led them through various towns and cities, including Norwood, Ohio, where their daughter, Anita Lynn, was born, and to a couple of homes in Glen’s hometown of Williamsburg, Kentucky. Finally, in 1981, they returned to Barbourville, Kentucky, to a place steeped in memories and history, where they lovingly raised their daughter and cared for Beatrice’s mother, Lillie, until her passing in 1994. Her beloved Glen would pass away in 2014, but Beatrice would remain in their home until December 2023 when she moved into the Oaks of Fayetteville Memory Care Unit in Fayetteville, Georgia near her daughter.
Beatrice was a woman of many talents, but she found solace and joy in the simplicity of life. Many days of her life were spent outdoors tending to her garden, canning the fruits of her labor, or working in the yard. She always had a project going, whether it be scraping paint from window sills, clearing off flower beds, or completely redoing clothing that just didn’t fit her the way she liked. She could usually be found with a broom in her hand, and it wouldn’t have crossed her mind to go to bed with dirty dishes in the sink. Her hands were never idle, always engaged in something, and she enjoyed preserving memories through quilting.
She was an amazing cook, and she made the best chicken-n-dumplings, green beans, and cornbread in the world. Her apple stack cake made from apples from her very own apple trees that she cut and dried herself was award-winning. She had a keen eye for craftsmanship, often finding fault with “store-bought” clothing and remarking, “I could have made that better and for a lot cheaper.”
Her faith was the cornerstone of her life, and she found comfort in the pages of the Bible, possessing a deep knowledge and understanding of its teachings. Beatrice exemplified the true spirit of Christianity, embodying forgiveness, acceptance, and unconditional love towards others. Her generosity knew no bounds, and she always had a kind word and a thoughtful gesture for everyone she encountered.
Above all, Beatrice adored her grandson, Drew, whom she affectionately called her “Drew Boy.” He was the light of her life, and she treasured every moment spent with him. Despite her protests through the years against having pets, she formed deep bonds with animals, who were drawn to her gentle and loving nature.
Her passing leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew her, but her spirit will continue to shine brightly through the countless lives she touched. She leaves behind a daughter, son-in-law, and grandson, as well as a brother, sister, brother-in-laws, sisters-in-law, many nieces and nephews, several cousins, and countless friends. Beatrice Partin Carr will be remembered for her resilience, her compassion, and her unwavering faith—a true testament to a life well-lived.
Her funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Sunday, April 14 at 2 P.M. She will be laid to rest in the Partin-Carr Cemetery.
Friends may visit at the funeral home Saturday from 6 until 8 P.M. and on Sunday until the funeral hour.
