Mrs. Beatrice Carnes Leath age 80 of Barbourville departed this life on Sunday, May 7, 2023 in the Barbourville Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was born on May 21, 1942 in Knox County, the daughter of Mathias Carnes and Juanita Mills Carnes. She united in marriage with James Clarence Leath and to this union two children were born. She was a member of the Bethesda Baptist Church and had worked as a bus driver and teachers’ aide for KCEOC before retiring. She loved quilting, sewing, going to church and spending time with family.
She is preceded in death by her husband James Leath, her parents, Mathias and Juanita Carnes, one son Gary Wayne Leath, one daughter, Brenda Kempf, brother, Eugene Carnes and two sisters, Doris Brown and Judy Messer.
Left behind to mourn her passing, two grandchildren, Shelby Catherine Kempf and Kaylen Clark and husband John and her son-in-law, Byron Kempf all of Bowling Green, brothers, Billy Ray Carnes and wife Melve of Arjay, Lonnie Carnes and wife Margaret of Greenefield, Indiana, and Glenn Carnes of Barbourville, two sisters, Evelyn Mills of Barbourville and Betty Shelton and husband Jack of London. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Mrs. Beatrice Leath will be conducted in the Hampton Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, May 12, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Dillon Carnes and Rev. Kennon Roark officiating. Pallbearers will be nephews. She will be laid to rest in the Hammons Cemetery at Flat Lick, Kentucky. Hampton Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.
Friends will be received at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 6:00 until 9:00 p.m. and on Friday from 12:00 noon until the hour of service at 2:00 p.m.
