Obituary for Barry Duane Baker (1961-2023)

Barbourville, Ky. – Barry Duane Baker, 62, of Gray, Kentucky, passed away October 5, 2023, in Lancaster, Texas after a long illness.  Barry was born July 8, 1961, to William T. and Annadee Hyden Baker in Pineville, Kentucky.

Barry grew up in Warren, Michigan, returning to his Appalachian roots as an adult to raise his family.  He worked many years as a master mechanic and service manager, for Gambrel Chevrolet in Corbin, Kentucky.  When Barry wasn’t working on cars for a living, he was working on them for fun at home or watching them race on dirt or asphalt.  Most of all though, he loved spending Saturdays with family, grilling and listening to music.  Barry will be deeply missed by all who knew him including a host of family members, friends, and neighbors.

Left behind to mourn Barry’s passing is his beloved mother Annadee Hyden Baker of Gray, Kentucky, daughter Nicole Rebecca Hibbard (Russell) of Desoto, Texas, and son Jesse Taylor Baker of Corbin, Kentucky.  Three grandchildren, Landon Jeffrey Hibbard, Carson Austin Hibbard, and Mason Baker Hibbard also survive Barry, as does his mother-in-law Patricia Carion. Barry was preceded in death by his father, William T. Baker, and the mother of his children, Kelly M. Baker.

The Baker family will receive friends at Hopper Funeral Home on Saturday, October 14, 2023, from 12:00 PM until the funeral hour of 2:00 PM.  Reverend Josh K. Smith will officiate. Barry will be laid to rest in Barbourville Cemetery.  Casket Bearers are Landon Hibbard, Tyler Mills, Steve Farmer, Curtis Moore, Jeff Zigos, and William “Buddy” Baker.  Honorary Casket Bearers are Seth Baker, Keith Baker, Gary Baker, James Baker, Glen Baker, Russell Hibbard, and Jim Adams.
