Obituary for Arvil Jordan (1927-2023)

Mr. Arvil Jordan, 85, of Girdler, passed away Tuesday evening, August 15, 2023 at his home.  He was the son of the late Grover Jordan and Della Bright Jordan Smith born on October 2, 1927 in Knox County.

Arvil was a former National Standard employee and a founder and member of the Free Spirit Baptist Church.  He enjoyed gardening, watching westerns and was an avid Reds baseball and UK basketball fan.

On January 24, 1959, he united in marriage with Alma Smith and to this union three children were born.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Alma; three sisters, Evelyn Jordan, Bernice Broughton and Ilene Irvin and a brother, Buford Jordan.

Survivors include his loving children, Donna Turner of Girdler, Deloris Lawrence and husband, Royce, of Shepherdsville and Arvil David Jordan and wife, Jennifer, of Turkey Creek; a sister, Wanda Hammons of Bailey Switch; two brothers, Grover Jordan Jr. of Taylormill and Landon Smith and wife, Jennifer, of Monticello; five grandchildren, Justin Blevins, Mindy Medlin, Katie Johnson and husband, Cody, Taylor Jordan and Jeremy Lawrence and wife, Ashlee; five great grandchildren, Bentley, Jaxon, Oliver, Brewer and Mayley; several nieces and nephews; among other loved ones and dear friends.

His funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Sunday, August 20 at 2 P.M. with Rev. Roger Liford and Rev. Ricky Broughton officiating.  He will be laid to rest in the Barbourville Cemetery.

Casket bearers will be Tyler Ledford, Royce Lawrence, Justin Blevins, Jeremy Lawrence, Bentley Cottrell, Cody Johnson, Tommy Black, Andrew Blakely and Adam Smith.

Friends may visit at the funeral home Saturday between 6 and 8 P.M. and Sunday prior to the funeral hour.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Knox Funeral Home.
