Obituary for Ancil Leo Maynes (1946-2022)

Mr. Ancil Leo Maynes age 75 of Big Stone Gap, Virginia departed this life on Tuesday, October 11, 2022 at his home. He was born on October 19, 1946 and was the son of John Will Maynes and Martha Jane (Osborne) Maynes. He was a member of the Piney Chapel Missionary Baptist Church and served his country in the United States Army during the Viet Nam era. Ancil loved attending church, walking and family gatherings.

      He is preceded in death by his siblings, C.G. Maynes, Germaine Maynes, Hazel Henderson, Frederick Maynes, Imagene Maynes, James Ledford Maynes, Troy Willard Maynes and infant sister, Annetta Maynes.

     Left behind to mourn his passing, one brother, Harold Ray Maynes of Corbin and two sisters, Mildred Mahan of Siler, Kentucky and Shirley Boyd of Big Stone Gap, Virginia. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.

      Funeral services for Mr. Maynes will be conducted in the Hampton Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, October 17, 2022 at 12:00 noon with Rev. Gillis Jackson of Tennessee officiating. Pallbearers will be Terry Henderson, Michael Maynes, John Maynes, Jimmy White, Gillis Jackson and Nelson Underwood. He will be laid to rest in the Jonestown Cemetery in Knox County. Hampton Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.

      Friends will be received at the funeral home on Monday from 11:00 a.m. until the hour of service at 12:00 noon.
