BARBOURVILLE, Ky. – The Union College women’s basketball clicked on all cylinders offensively, as four players hit in double-digits as the Bulldogs registered a 94-49 win over visiting Voorhees College (S.C.) on Tuesday.
Union shot a 47.8 percent (33-of-69) from the field and 44.4 percent (12-of-27) from 3-point range, both of which are season highs. The Bulldogs connected on 16-of-33 shots (48.5 percent) during the first half, hitting 6-of-13 shots (46.2 percent) from beyond the arc.
Chariss Wilson netted team highs in scoring (13 points) and rebounds (five). Close behind her was Logan Calvert and Katrina Johnson with 12 points apiece, while Brooke Hammonds finished out the double digits for the Bulldogs with 11 points.
The win was nothing short of a total team effort as the Bulldogs benched scored 47 points alone. Thirteen different Bulldogs had at least three points and one rebound as the team tallied 46 rebounds.
Union never trailed the Voorhees Lady Tigers with the largest lead being by 46 during the fourth period. The Bulldogs opened up the game with a 9-0 run with 7:05 remaining in the first period. The Lady Tigers finally got on the board with a shot from behind the arc, but Union answered back with 14 point run, leading 23-3 with two minutes remaining.
Once the Bulldogs pushed the margin to double digits, the lead never got lower than 18 points. Union held a 47-23 lead after a 3-pointer from Johnson at buzzer to send the Bulldogs to the locker room with a 24-point cushion.
The Bulldog offense continued to pick up steam in the second half, outscoring the Tigers 28-8 in the third and 19-18 in the fourth.
Union owned the lane, scoring 38 points in the paint. The Bulldogs outrebounded Voorhees 46-39 and had 44 points off the Lady Tigers’ turnovers.
For Voorhees, Lashaya Clark recorded 19 points, while Nijah Davis netted 16 of her own.
